Chahar volcanic cluster, just away 380 kilometers from Beijing, is known as a “museum” for its peculiar geological structures, such as volcanoes, lava fields and barrier lakes. In Chahar, grassland, volcanoes, wetland, temple, lake are interdependent and unique. Enjoy the volcanoes in grassland must be memorable!
Chahar Volcanic Cluster is located in Chahar city, Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region. Including Wulanhada volcanic cluster and Huanghuagou volcanic cluster, they are found to have erupted during the holocene epoch (about 10,000 years ago) on the southern edge of the Inner Mongolia plateau, indicating that volcanoes are very young, have not suffered weathering and denudation for a long time, and still keep a good shape.
No.3 volcano is called ‘’Bei Lian Dan Lu’’. The round crater is deep, with bottom diameter about 700 meters long and 600 meters wide. The crater turns lower gradually from the northwest to the northeast, with height about 80 meters. Some stone steps have been built up along the volcano. The panorama view is like a super bowl in the grassland.
The products of volcanism bring great economic value. The basalt, pumice and cinerite after volcanic eruption are useful building materials, which does not produce toxic substances, waste gas, or residue, known as the "green industrial materials".
Volcanic cone is incomplete due to man-made damage, but clear cone profile is rare in China, which provides a perfect model for geologists to research volcanic structure.
