Siguniang Mountain is located in the eastern part of Xiaojin County, Aba Tibetan and Qiang Autonomous Prefecture, Sichuan Province, adjacent to Wolong National Nature Reserve; its geographical coordinates are between 102°42′30″~102°58′40″ east longitude and 30°54′16″ north latitude Between ~31°16′21″, the total area is 591m2. About Mt. Siguniang

Mt. Siguniang(Four Sisters Mountain) scenery is the world natural heritage. It’s the national AAAA level scenic area, national scenic area, national geological park, national nature reserve, the world heritage of pandas’ habitat in Sichuan and one of the national top ten famous mountains of mountaineering.

Mt. Siguniang is located in Mt. Siguniang Town, Xiaojin County, Ngawa Tibetan and Qiang Autonomous Prefecture, Sichuan. It belongs to Qionglai Mountains, Tibet plateau and is composed of four endless peaks, Mt. Yaoguniang (The Youngest Girl’s Peak 6250m), Mt. Sanguniang (The Third Girl’s Peak-Sanfeng5355m), Mt. Erguniang (The Second Girl’s Peak-Erfeng 5276m) and Mt. Daguniang (The Elder Girl’s Peak-Dafeng 5025m). Mt. Yaoguniang is the second highest peak of Sichuan with the sea-level of 6.25km. They are covered with snow all year round and Mt. Yaoguniang is known as the descendant of Mt. Shushan and the Eastward Alps because of its slender figure.

In 2003, Siguniang Mountain was announced as the the  National Nature Reserve by People's Government of Aba Prefecture as a public welfare institution.The main protection of the reserve:eco-system of primitive dark coniferous forests ;wild anmials such as giant pandas, snow leopards, wildebeests, white-lipped deer, golden monkeys, etc.The main object is to porect its animal-based biodiversity and its habitat also its unique geological landforms dominated by glaciers.

Siguniang Mountain is located on the eastern edge of the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau , and belongs to the transition zone from the Sichuan Basin to the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau. Alpine and gorge sub-region, alpine and gorge area in the middle reaches of the Dadu River. The main landform types are: dry and warm river valley (semi-arid valley) landform, alpine landform, and extremely high mountain landform.

The mountains in the area are developed by steep and modern glaciers . There are 52 snowy peaks above 5000m above sea level, which are covered with snow all the year round and have modern mountain glaciers. The main peak (Yaomeifeng), Siguniang Mountain, is 6250m above sea level. It is the highest peak in Qionglai Mountain Range, the second highest peak in Sichuan, and the third highest peak in Hengduan Mountain Range. But for mountain climbers, they normally do peaks climbing for Dafeng (5276m), Erfeng (5276m) and Sanfeng (5355m).

Weather Features of Mount Siguniang

Siguniang Mountain has a subtropical climate. Due to the large disparity in topography in the area, the mountain climate changes significantly with the change of altitude. From the Wori River Valley in the southwest to the top of the main peak, a complex spectrum of climate vertical zones is formed, presenting cold temperate, sub-frigid, and sub-frigid zones. The climatic spectrum of the frigid zone and the permafrost zone vertically distributed. The annual average temperature in the reserve is 5.9℃, and the average temperature at the top of Siguniang Mountain is -17.1℃. The frost-free period is about 78 days. The dry rainy season is obvious in the area, and the rainfall season and geographical distribution are uneven. The annual rainfall is 931.5 mm. There is sufficient sunshine, the sunshine percentage is as high as 51%, and the annual average sunshine hours is 2,265 hours.

Tourism informaiton of Mountain Siguniang

Mt. Siguniang scenery is composed of Mt. Siguniang, Shuangqiao Valley (Double-bridge Valley), Changping Valley and Haizi Valley (Lake Valley) in which 57 of the more than 120 scenic spots have been named. The natural ecology is protected well here with more than 1200 kinds of plants and 31 kinds of animals under state protection, including pandas, snub-nosed monkeys, snow leopards, Sumenzi and Huahaizi. It also teems with rare medicinal herbs, such as gastrodia elate, fritillary bulb and cordyceps sinensis.

Mt. Siguniang is known as the eastward Alps because of its singular peaks and unique landscape. It’s the famous scenic spot for tourists, the paradise for climbers, the labyrinth for hikers and the fairyland for photographer.Exploring Siguniang Mountain is the choice of many travel enthusiasts

There are One mountain and 3 valley in Mountain National Nature reserve.  One mountain just as mentioned about with 4 peaks. While the three valley are : Shuangqiao valley , Changping Valley and Haizi Valley.

About Shuangqiao valley

It’s about 7km from Rilong Town to Shuangqiao Valley. The valley is 34.8km long, so it’s hard to walk through the valley. You’d better take the bus after walking a while. Pay attention not to have altitude reaction.

Shuangqiao valleyShuangqiao valley

Shuangqiao Valley (Double-bridge Valley) is 34.8km long. It’s the only line of the three valleys that one needn’t ride a horse. There is a highway through the whole journey and the sightseeing timber trestle is available. It covers an area of 216.6 km2.The scenery of it is concentrated and charming. It’s famous for the two wooden bridges built by the local people in the valley to pass freely. One named Yangliu Bridge (Willow Bridge) is constructed of willow. The other constructed of fir is called Bian Bridge (Convenient Bridge). There are 17 viewpoints and 54 scenery spots by preliminary detection. In the front part are wonders like Yangliu Bridge, Yinyang Vale, Poplar Forest, Mt. Riyuebaojing, Mt. Five Colors and so on. In the middle part is Nianyu Sandbar (Fish-driving Sandbar) including Ginseng District, Seabuckthorn Woods, Mt. Jianshanzi and Jiujia Sea, etc. In the latter part are Niupengzi Turf and  Changhe Hirst, some scenery spots are here, such as Mt. Abi (Mt. Grandma), Mt. Lieren (Mt. Hunter), Xuezhu Walls (Blood-built Walls), Xiesongyicai, Niupengzi Turf, Changheba Dam and so on. Those wonderful cliffs, like Guyuan Peak, Lieren Peak, Yingyuan Cliff and Jinji Ridge are amazing. After entering into the valley, you can see the hidden but beautiful scenery of Yinyang Vale which is steep, tortuous and deep. The other scenery spots look like compact gallery which makes you forget to leave. In addition to the patterns of mountains and water, grass and woods, clouds and fog, you feel like stay in the fairyland.

About Changping Valley

Changpinggou is a paradise for hiking enthusiasts as it’s the important campsite if you want to climb the third and the main Peak. It’s also an ideal place for rock-climbing and ice-climbing. Meanwhile you can get to Bipeng Valley in Lixian County if you cross Changping Valley.

Changping ValleyChangping Valley

Changping Valley is 29km long and covers an area of 100km2. There are 21 viewpoints in this green valley with plentiful primordial plants that preserved well. In the large area of primordial forest, the cypresses are tall and straight, the pines are dense, the firs and willows cover the sky. Look up and you can see the sunshine shines through the crowns. Near your feet is the fertile covered by moss showing the special peaceful and primitive. At the end of the forest you will feel like entering into another world. You can see the meadow in the mountains and a creek running wriggly, the wildflowers and rape flowers blooming in spring, the red birches vying with maples in autumn, the luxuriant cypresses and pines that exist for a long history, the waterfalls rushing in the trees and the ancient post road extending in the vast forest.    

About Haizi Valley

Haizi Valley is one of the three valleys but the highest. It’s about 4200m above sea-level where there are lakes. Haizi Valley (Lake Valley) is an important part of Mt. Siguniang (Four Sister Mountain). It’s 19.2km long and covers an area of 126.48 km2. The head of it is located in Rilong Town. The scenery of Haizi Valley is totally different from Shuangqiao Valley (Double-bridge Valley ) or Changping Valley. It’s mainly alpine meadow in the front half part which is the best place for Mt. Siguniang enjoying and photoing. Those are mainly lakes in the latter half part. It takes one day to visit the latter part because of its long distance. There are 12 viewpoints and 46 scenery spots by preliminary detection. More than ten alpine lakes, such as Flower Lake, Floating Lake and Blue Lake are dotted in the valley. The water here goes through Wori River and gathers into Dadu River in Dunbar. Many ancient precious scaleless fish are retained here and become the living fossils for us to understand the land. You can camp in Haizi Valley. It’s also the essential place to get to each peak. The climbers can enter into No.1 Camp and the Base Camp from Haizi Valley by walking or riding a horse, then head to the big, the second, the third and the main peak. You will reach the lakes after over the mountains. Then you can enjoy the beauty of the scenery, watch the alpine ducks flying on the water and listen to the birds singing in the mountains.
