Recommended Sites for Different Seasons in Beijing

Beijing has different places for different seasons. No matter when you come, you will see a different Beijing with differnt scenery and various activities.

Spring

Dressing

If you visit Beijing in March and April, the spring has just begun. There may be wind and sand sometimes so a thick coat and mask is suggested. If you come to Beijing in May, weather is already warm and the flowers are blooming. You can wear a thin coat at this time. If you are allergic to pollen, you should pay attention to it.

Yuyuantan Cherry Blossom Festival

Recommended time: Late March to early April

Yuyuantan Cherry Blossom Festival offers more than 20 species of cherry blossoms, which has a short flowering period. We normally suggest to visit around March 21/22 because it’s starting to fade in late April.

Beijing Botanical Garden

Recommended time: Late March to early May

Beijing Botanical Garden is located between the Fragrant Hills Park and Jade Spring Hill. It is only 24 kilometers far from downtown. Beijing Botanical Garden has an open area of 2,000,000 square meters. It consists of the Plant Exhibition Area, the Scenic Spot and the Historical Resorts, the Scientific Research Area and the Nature Reserve. 10,000 categories of plant with a population of 1.5 million plants are cultivated here, for which this one has been regarded as the biggest in north China so far. Imagine yourself in such big garden in Spring!

Beihai Park

Recommended time: Mid to late March

Beihai park, one of the oldest, largest and best-preserved ancient imperial gardens in China, is also a great place to visit in spring. Waiting for the dissolution of snow and ice, boating on the water can never be enough.

Summer

Dressing

Light, quick-drying clothing, do not wear too heavy.

Wuling Xifeng Drift

Wuling Xifeng Scenic Spot is located in Xinchengzi town, adjacent to Wuling Fairy Lake. It integrates tourism, sightseeing, vacation and leisure together. Drifting here is a cool way to spend the hot summer.

Autumn

Dressing

Autumn falls in September and October. There may be big temperature difference for daytime and night so it’s OK to wear shirts but please take a coat with you just in case.

Recommended Travel

Pofeng Ridge

Recommended time: Early October to late November

The mountains are covered with red leaves when in autumn, and the unique shape of the "eagle mouth rock" on the mountain also provides a platform for people to climb the top. Bird view from Pofeng Ridge is definitely worth the climb.

Labagou Primeval Forest Park

Recommended time: September - October

Walking inside the park with Galsang flowers along the road, you will see the most beautiful autumn in Beijing. It’s only 160km from the downtown with an coverage of 111715000㎡. Apart from different plants, there are a variety of rare animals too, for example, leopard, fox and even bears.

Fragrance Hill

Situated in the east part of Western Hills, 28 kilometers northwest of Beijing City, Fragrant Hills Park is very large, made up of hills and forest covering 400 acres (162 hectares). Both its natural sceneries and cultural relics are abundant. It is one of Beijing's most famous view spots, where maple leaves blazing with smoke after frost every autumn.

Beigong National Forest Park

If you want to feel the passion and romance of maple leaf, Beigong Forest Park can be taken into consideration as well. There are about 210000㎡ of maple trees and 900000㎡ of ther planets and trees, which is the paradise of maple leaf and a good place for leisure and vacation.

Huanghuacheng Water Great Wall

Huanghuacheng Water Great Wall is a combination of mountains, lakes, and the ancient Great Wall. You will see the Great Wall crawling along the mountain, cutting the lake into 2 and the ancient trees twisting together, a very unique but fascinating view.

Olympic Forest Park

Olympic Forest Park is divided into North and South Gardens with an ecological bridge spanning the fifth ring road and full of plants in the middle. The South Garden is dominated by large natural landscape, while the North Garden is dominated by small stream landscape and natural wild interest dense forest, which is worthy of the "green lung" in Beijing.

Wild Duck Lake Wetland Natural Reserve

Wild Duck Lake is the largest wetland bird natural reserve in north China and the only one in Beijing. If lucky, we can see black crane, white crane, Aquila chrysaetos in the reserve.

Winter

Dressing

Winter is the best time to see ice sculpture and ice lantern cultural festival. It is recommended to wear thick clothes and keep warm against cold.

Longqing Gorge

Longqing Gorge has steep peaks, tranquil lakes and magnificent mountains. When in winter, this place is a paradise for ice sculpture and lantern festival, which normally starts from mid Jan. and lasts till late Feb.
