Tao

The concept in Taoism is "Tao", often interpreted as the creative principle of the universe and translated as "the way".

Tao is not a thing or a substance. It's more like a system of guidance. Taoism presents many gods and the most important one is Lao Tsu, who is revered as the first God of Taoism and the personification of Tao. Accoring to its belief, all of these divinities in the universe are embodiments of Tao.

Qingcheng Mountain

Qingcheng Mountain is located in Dujiangyan, 65 kilometers west of Chengdu. It is one of the ancient cradles of Taoism, with numerous Taoist temples and sites along the paths to its peak. The area is green all year around and is known for its secluded tranquility.

The mountain includes two parts: front mountain and back mountain. Front mountain is famous for its numerous cultural and historic sites. Back mountain is noted for its paradisiacal scenery, primitiveness and mysteries.

Zhang Daoling

In A.D. 143, Zhang Ling came to Mt. Qingcheng and decided to preach here. He wrote Taoism books based on the ancient classic book “Taipingjing”, and worshiped Laozi as the leader of Taoism. He changed his name to Zhang Daoling and was regarded as the Taoist Master (Tianshi) by later generations.

The famous scenic sites at Qingcheng Mountain are: Shangqing Palace, Jianfu Palace, Tianshi Cave, ect.

Laojun Pavilion

Laojun Pavilion is located at the first peak of Mt. Qingcheng. It has a squqre bottom but a round top, meaning the squre ground and round sky. From the pavilion, you will have the panorama view of the peaks, sunrise/sunset, sea clouds and snow mountain nearby.
