Hulunbuir Grassland
Located in the northeast of Inner Mongolia, the western foot of the Greater Xing’anling Mountains, near China’s border with Russia and Mongolia. Hulunbuir Grassland is among the four great prairies in the world, and the most lush and pristine grassland in China, termed “the kingdom of pasture”. The name “Hulunbuir Grassland” origins from the Hulun Lake and the Buir Lake.
The best time to visit Hulunbuir Grassland is from the June to middle September. You could try horseback riding on the grassland, and a local dish of boiled or barbecued lamb.
Gegentala Grassland
Gegentala Grassland is located in Ulanqab. Gegentala means “cast and bright grass lands” in Mongolian. Walking on the vast Gegentala Grassland, you can see a circular building made of stones on the relatively high hillside at a certain distance, and that is so-called Aobao, where local Mongolians hold sacrificial ceremony to pray for good luck.
Gegentala grassland is well known for its green grass and good service, especially the best yurts. When you arrive at Gegentala, you will be warmly welcomed by the local Mongolians colorfully dressed, presenting each of you a silver cup of wine and Hada ( white or blue silk scarves which are tokens of greetings in Inner Mongolia ). This is a routine welcoming ceremony. To most of the travelers, it is surely first time for someone to received such kind of special ceremony.
Gegentala Grassland in summer, especially in July and August, all the grasslands are at the best time.
Xilamuren Grassland
Xilamuren Grasslands is characterized by rolling hills and lush green grass. On Xilamuren Grassland, there is a Lama Temple Constructed in 1769 during the reign of Emperor Qianlong. It is Puhui Temple which should better not be missed on your trip to Xilamuren Grassland. Originally it was the temporary palace for the sixth Xilituzhao living Buddha. Now it is a complex of three halls with carved ceilings and painted beams. The beautiful Xilamuren River surrounds the temple, presenting a peaceful and harmonious atmosphere.
Entertainments are many. You may try activities such as Mongolian wrestling, horse & camel riding, rodeo competitions, archery, visiting traditional families, and trips to the Aobao.
From July to September, the greenest grasslands have blossoming flowers. It’s also a good destination for you to escape scorching temperature. The average temperature ranges from 18 - 21℃ in summer thanks to its high altitude and latitude.
Xilingol Grassland
Xilingol Grassland, which means “rivers on the highlands”, is located in Xilinhot City, center of Inner Mogolnia.
Xilingol Grassland in eastern Inner Mongolia is one of the biggest and most beautiful grasslands in China. It is a great place to enjoy vast and endless green land, rush about on horseback, taste Mogolian style food, and experience the life of a herdsman. On October 23, 2005, the Xilingol Grassland was selected of China's most beautiful six prairies.
Every year in May to September, Xilingol Grassland flowers spread everywhere. There is a sea of flowers, so it is the best of time the year to travel.
