【News】Namtso Lake Closed on Oct.31, 2019!

Since October 31, there were 3 heavy snows in Namtso Lake Scenic Area.

Currently, for the sake of safety, Namtso Lake is now temporarily closed to tourists. Only some herdsmen living in the area can still go, but the heavy snow has caused a lot of inconveniences.

Why Namtso Lake closes?

Different from other scenic spots, Namtso Lake is easily affected by weather due to its high altitude.

The only way to Namtso is via the 5,100-meter Naganla Pass, which would be impassable if there are snow and ice.

In previous years, Namtso Lake normally closes in mid Nov. Seems like this year, the winter comes earlier than before.

When does it open again?

The damage caused by the snowfall is not to be underestimated. So far, many tourists are forced to return.

According to the Management Office of Namtso Scenic Spot, as long as it doesn't snow, the scenic spot may open again.

From our past experiences, the best time to visit Namtso Lake would be between April to Oct. each year when the weather is warm and the road condition is good.
