Nagqu Prefecture is an very important part of Tibet. When traveling to Nagqu, you will be surprised by its beautiful scenery, boundless grassland, grand snow mountain and the friendly local nomads.

Qiangtang Grassland

As one of the five biggest pastures in China, Qiangtang Grassland is surrounded by the Kunlun, Tanggula and Kangdese Mountains. Nourished by Black River, the upper reaches of Nujiang River, Qiangtang Grassland is a paradise for the wild animals (yak, horse, sheep, antelopes, etc.) and plants. When in summer, you can see yaks and sheep strolling everywhere on the vast grassland. The grass Naza growing on the grassland is a kind of short grass that has the highest content of protein among all grasses which provide abundant food for the animals. Summer is the best time to visit Nagqu Prefecture as local nomads will camp on the grasslands. On the top of these camps, you can see the colorful flags waving high in the sky.

Namtso Lake

On Nov. 14, 2005, Namtso Lake in the Tibet Autonomous Region was selected as one of the five most beautiful lakes in China by Chinese National Geography Magazine. Namtso Lake means 'the holy lake' in the Tibetan language. Its touching beauty should not be missed by any visitors there. Its purity and solemnness are symbols of Qinghai-Tibet Plateau. It covers a total area of more than 1,900 square kilometers, being the second largest salt lake in China (the biggest one is in Qinghai Province). At an elevation of 4,718 meters, it is also the highest altitude salt lake in the world, the furthest depth being more than 33m. The water in Namtso Lake for the most part arises from rains, melted ice and snow of Mt. Nyenchen Tangula and the inflow of crooks and streams, hence the lake is very clear and limpid. With the lake surface assuming sky blue, the lake and the sky seem to be one and undivided. Book a Namtso Lake tour will be suitable for you if you are interested in the natural landscape.

Lagenla Pass

Lagenla Pass, located at the Damxung County in Tibet, is the only way to Namsto. With the altitude of 5190 m, it is the way to pass through Nyenchen Tangula Range, which is known as restricted zone of life. Standing at the pass, looking into the distance around, you will feel the combination of the power and vast of nature. It's also one of the best spot to have a bird view of Namtso Lake downwards. In Tibetan people’s mind, each mountain pass is a sacred place. Therefore, the prayer flags at the mountain pass show the reverence for the gods.
