What to Pack for Tibet Trip

Befoe going to Tibet, packing for the Tibet tour is a big concern for many travelers as they don't know what to bring or what may be useful during the trip. As a rule, travel light. You can buy or rent most things when you are traveling in West China. Carrying a light pack will ease your trip. Make it more comfortable and let you fully enjoy the pleasures of traveling. However, this page goes over the essentials that are worth bringing from home.


Documents

1.Never forget your valid visa and passport, your identity card, Tibet Travel Permit as well as maybe some of your certificate photos and other important documents or materials needed for your travel. Put them into a sturdy and waterproof bag and have them readily available.

2.Do not forget any tickets you bought or booked in advance, for planes, trains or ships, and other admission tickets.

3.Some paper, a pen, notebook and memo book could be handy. Remember to bring a phone/address list of your families, relatives and friends in case of an emergency.

4.Make a card with your personal information on, including your full names, nationality, home phone and address, in case you are ever in trouble.

5.Bring your printed itinerary. A guidebook is also helpful for you to know more about your destinations and will save time when traveling.

  


Clothes

1.People who want to travel in Tibet should know the temperature during daytime is around 10-25°C in Lhasa, but the night temperature might be below 0°C and when visit the lake or mountain, down-jacket is needed. Try to dress in black or other heavy color clothes since the road out of Lhasa may be very dusty and dirty. The clothes you bring will depend very much on the time of year, and where you expect to be going. Check the Weather in Tibet to pack accordingly.

For warm weather you'll want lightweight cotton garments - loose-fitting but modest, and covering enough to ward off sun and bugs. Shorts and a swimsuit are worth bringing (especially for hotspring). A lightweight waterproof jacket or poncho is advisable at any time of year. For cooler seasons, try to dress in layers: A T-shirt, long-sleeved shirt, sweater or fleece jacket and shell will set you up for almost any weather. Trainers or any sort of durable, lightweight footwear will be adequate for most conditions in West China, even on a trek, though higher up you'll need something sturdier. You'll also need a backup pair of shoes in case those get wet.


The following are some suggested items to bring for your tour in Tibet:

1.  Jacket:A fiber-pile jacket is ideal for evening.

2.  Sweater:Wool or wool mix with a high neck for extra warmth.

3.  Headwear:Wool or fible-pile ski-style cap or balaclava for warmth. A lightweight brimmed hat is good for sun protection. Inexpensive broad brimmed straw and elt hats are sold in Tibet's city markets.

4.  Scarf:Wool or silk is best.

5.  Mittens or gloves:Wool, pile, or polypyrene are best.

6.  Bandanna or handkerchief:Bring several.

7.  Cotton underwear:Four or five pairs.

8.  Socks:At least three pairs.

9.  Shirts:A long-sleeve shirt made of wool, flannel, or chamois, or a track-suit top. A long-sleeve stay-pree cotton shirt for warmer temperatures. Bring two or three T-shirts as well.

10.Pants:For men, one pair of loose-fitting wool pants, wool knickers, or fiber-pile pants, and one pair of light-weight cotton pants. Women should wear a midcalf dress or skirt, though pants and knee-length knickers with socks are also acceptable. Shorts are not appropriate at any time in Tibet for men or women.

11.Journal, reading book, writing materials: For quiet moments.

12.Camera: You will regret not bring one.

13.Binoculars: Good for observing birds, wildlife, and distant scenery.

14.Money pouch or belt: Safer than a wallet for keeping your passport, money, and valuable papers.

15.Pictures from home: Personal photographs of your children, pet, city, house, and so on are a great way to communicate with local people.

16.Snack foods: Nuts, chocolate bars, granola bars, dried fruit, hard candies, beef jerky, and flavored drink mixes are much-appreciated trail treats.


Medicines

Following is a list of items you should consider including in your medical kit - consult your pharmacist for brands available in your country:

1.  Aspirin or paracetamol - for pain or fever

2.  Antihistamine - for allergies, e.g. hay fever; to ease the itch from insect bites or stings; and to prevent motion sickness.

3.  Antibiotics consider including these if you're traveling well off the beaten track' see your doctor, as they must be prescribed, and carry the prescription with you.

4.  Loperamides or Diphenoxylate 'blockers' for diarrhea' Prochlorperazine or metoclopramide for nausea and vomiting.

5.  Rehydration mixture to prevent dehydration, e.g. due to severe diarrhea; particularly important when traveling with children.

6.  Insect repellent, sunscreen, lip balm and eye drops.

7.  Calamine lotion, sting relief spray or aloe vera-to ease irritation from sunburn and insect bites or stings.

8.  Antifungal cream or powder - for fungal skin infections and thrush.

9.  Antiseptic, such as povidone-iodine for cuts and grazes.

10.Bandages, band-aids or plasters and other would dressings.

11.Scissors, tweezers and a thermometer (note that mercury thermometers are prohibited by airlines)

12.Syringes and needles in case you need injections in a country with medical hygiene problems. Ask your doctor for a note explaining why you have them.

13.Cold and Flu tablets, throat lozenges and nasal decongestant.

14.Multivitamins - consider for long trips, when dietary vitamin intake may be inadequate.

15.It's not necessary for your backpack to be heavy and chock-full. Everything you need can easily be purchased in China. You will get good quality at the right place. Make your trip easy and comfortable.
