Gongga Mountain Trekking 9 Days Tour

Day 1: Chengdu Arrival

Upon arrival, we will transfer from airport/train station to hotel. The rest time is for you to relax on your own.

Day 2: Chengdu-Ya’an-Kangding-Laoyulin-Gexi Grassland

Today, we will follow the Chengdu–Ya’an Expressway to the so-called “Rain City” – Ya’an. After driving through Erlangshan Tunnel, you will be surprised to see a sunshine day with blue sky, which is totally different from the other side of the tunnel. Later we reach to the Dadu River Grand Canyon, which is the largest one in western Sichuan. After about 6.5 hours driver from Chengdu, we will reach Kangding Ancient city.

In the afternoon, we will drive to Laoyulin to meet our porter team and then start our trekking tour to Gexi Grassland (about 11 km).

Day 3: Gexi Grassland-Liangcha River-Xia Riwuqie-Shang Riwuqie

Get up early to enjoy the sunrise at the campsite. After breakfast, we will start trekking for around 8 km, about 3 hours to Liangcha River (3780m).

From Liangcha River to Xia Riwuqie (lower Riwuqie), we will hike for 9km about 6 hours to the campsite for tonight – Shang Riwuqie (upper Riwuqie). Along the way, we will see the spectacular Tianhaizi Snow Mountain (6,070m), Small Gongga Mountain (6,027m) and other beautiful peaks.

Day 4: Shang Riwuqie-Riwuqie Pass-Moxigou Campsite (Trekking 12 km, 4.5 hours)

In the morning, we will leave Shang Riwuqie campsite to trek 6km, for about 2.5 hours to Riwuqie Pass (4830m). Along the way, you can enjoy the Jiazifeng Peak (6549m), Tianhaizi Snow Mountain (6070m), Small Gongga Mountain (6027m), Riwuqie Peak (6376m) and Mt.Leduomayin. Today, we will trek 12km in total for about 4.5 hours to reach the campsite at the end of Moxigou Valley.

Day 5: Moxigou Campsite-Gongga Temple (Trekking 25 km, 8 hours)

Today, we will hike from Moxigou Valley to Gongga Temple (3,750m), about 25km (about 8 hours). Although the distance seems quite long, we are basically doing down from higher to lower places.

Gongga Temple is located under the main peak of Gongga Mountain. It is one of the three holy sites of Tibetan Buddhism and also the best place to appreciate the stunning view of the main peak of Mount Gongga.

Day 6: Gongga Temple-Shang Zimei Village-Zimei Pass-Shang Zimei Village

Today we leave Gongga Temple and begin to climb up to Zimei Pass. From Gongga Temple to Shang Zimei Village, we will hike 6km for about 2 hours. After appreciating the sunset from the pass, we will return back to Shang Zimei village by car.

Day 7: Shang Zimei Village-Xia Zimei Village-Bawanghai-Jiebeishi-Caoke

After breakfast, we will leave Shang Zimei village (upper Zimei village) and hike for about half an hour to get to Xia Zimei village (lower Zimei village). The distance from Xia Zimei Village to Bawanghai is 12km but you can also choose to ride a horse or take a tractor (extra cost needed) for this part.

After rest at Bawanghai, we will hike to the main road (about 2 hours) and take a car to Caoke.

Day 8: Caoke-Lianghekou-Shimian-Ya’an-Chengdu (323km)

After breakfast, we will drive back to Chengdu from Caoke back to Chengdu.

Day 9: Chengdu Departure

Today we will drop you off to the train station/airport according to your schedule. Tour ends.
