Kashgar is an oasis city in Xinjiang. It has served as a trading post and strategically important city on the Silk Road between China, Middle East and Europe for over 2000 years. During this trip, we will learn the traditional and ancient Kashgar and have a better understanding of the local people and cuture.

Itinerary Details

Day 1: Kashgar Arrival

Upon arrival, we will meet you at the train station/airport and transfer to hotel for check-in. In the afternoon, we will visit the Kashgar old town. It’s an ancient city. We will have a glimpse of what this legendary central Asian hub was like in the days when the Silk Road was at its zenith. At the convergence point of widely varying cultures and empires, Kashgar has been under the rule of the Chinese, Turkic, Mongol, and Tibetan empires. The city has also been the site of a number of battles between various groups of people on the steppes.

Day 2: Kashgar-Karakul Lake (260km, 4 hours)

After breakfast take the drive on the China and Pakistan highway to visit the Karakul Lake and enjoy the Pamir landscape.

Karakul Lake: Karakul lies within a circular depression interpreted as an impact crater with a rim diameter of 52 km. The lake is popular among travelers for its beautiful scenery and the clarity of its reflection in the water, whose color ranges from a dark green to azure and light blue.

Day 3: Karakul Lake-Taxkorgan

In the morning, we will drive from Karakul Lake to Taxkorgan. Taxkorgan County is located in the eastern part of the Pamir Plateau, where the Kunlun, Karakoram, Hindukush and Tian Shan mountains come together, at the borders with Afghanistan, Tajikistan and Pakistan. On the way, we will enjoy the beautiful scenery of Mt. Muztag, Taxkorgan, stone castle, and the brave Tajiks people lives on the Pamir more than 2000 year with nomadic life.

Stone fortress: Located on a tableland northeast of the county seat of Taxkorgan Tajik Autonomous County, it covers an area of 100,000 square meters and consists of ruins of city and temple of the Tang Dynasty era and a Qing Dynasty government office.

Day 4: Taxkorgan-Kashgar

We will head back to Kashgar in the morning and visit Id Kah Mosque and Handicraft Street in the afternoon.

Id Kah Mosque: This is the largest mosque in China, and the most famous mosque in Xinjiang. Every Friday, it houses nearly 10,000 worshippers and may accommodate up to 20,000. The buildings of Id Kah Mosque look magnificent and solemn, and display the artistic styles of Islamic mosque architecture.

Handicraft Street: It’s a fascinating place showing the distinctive custom and culture of Kashgar, with many full-time handicraftsmen working on the street and hundreds of workshops and booths alongside.

Day 5: Kashgar

Today we will stay in Kashgar to enjoy the ancient city folklore.

Sunday Bazaar: This is called “Sunday” bazaar but it is open daily, even though it is busiest on Sundays. Streets near this big market are jammed with farmers and buyers arriving by donkey cart, truck, bicycle, horseback, ute, motobike, or on foot, with their animals.

Apakh Hoja Tomb: The site is also known as the Xiang Fei (Fragrant Concubine) Tomb in memory of Abakh Khoja's granddaughter, Iparhan, who was the Fragrant Concubine of Emperor Qianlong of Qing Dynasty. It is the most complete Islamic tomb dating from the beginning of the Qing Dynasty.

Day 6: Kashgar Departure

Today we will send you to the airport/train station based on your departure time. Tour ends.
